The Cornwall & Area Chamber of Commerce and the Social Development Council of SDGCA are pleased to co-host another critical Provincial Election Debate at the Cornwall Civic Complex. This event is a pivotal platform for addressing the intertwined economic and social issues critical to the well-being of our community. The public is invited to this engaging forum, focusing on the urgent economic concerns during these uncertain times and the social challenges impacting our area.
The evening will begin with a meet and greet at 5:00 PM, followed by the debate at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, February 19th. All provincial candidates have been invited to ensure a comprehensive discussion. The event will be televised by YourTV Cogeco and made possible thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Cornwall and District area REALTORS (and Ontario Real Estate Association).
Debate Format & Speaking Order
- The order of first responses will be determined by a random draw on February 19 at 5pm.
- The response order for each question will rotate to ensure fairness.
- Candidates will not be allowed to have binders or other printed/electronic materials on the stage. A notepad and pen will be provided.
Speaking Time & Debate Structure
- Each candidate will have up to 2 minutes to respond to each question.
- The moderator may grant additional time if the complexity of a question warrants it.
- After each question, an open debate will take place, moderated and timed to maintain a fair and constructive discussion.
- Questions will be solicited from a variety of sources including, but not limited to, the moderator, Cornwall & Area Chamber of Commerce members, and the Cornwall SDG Social Development Council. A portion of the debate will allow for question from the in-person audience.
- A portion of the debate will be opened up to in-person attendees, who will have the option to ask questions.
- Each candidate will be allowed to deliver a closing statement, with the order being the reverse of the initial response order.
- Closing statements must not exceed 2 minutes.
