One in five Canadians will experience a mental health problem or illness every year, that’s more than seven million people. And, it can have an impact on the workplace. Each week in Canada, 500,000 employees are absent from work, and mental health claims are becoming both the largest and fastest-growing category of disability claims with the costs greater than the those of diabetes, respiratory disorders, and cancer combined.
However, despite its impact, your workplace can play an essential part in maintaining positive mental health. It can give your people the opportunity to feel productive and contribute to your businesses success. A mentally healthy workplace can:
∙ Foster a positive culture
∙ Promote employee’s mental well-being
∙ Prevent harm to employee mental health
