May 4, 2016
Hello. I’m pleased to report that your new Chamber Board has held its first two monthly meetings and we are most encouraged with the results. We want all of our members to know that the 2016 Board of Directors is both enthusiastic and engaged and there will be much activity over the next few months.
There are a number of key committees to which Directors have been assigned, Member Services and Development, and Breakfast Connections / Luncheons being just two of them. While all of our committees will play important roles in the growth and prosperity of our City, these two will be of particular significance to our members as professional development events.
While we will launch a number of initiatives over the coming months, an important one comes from the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC), which has just launched an important and far reaching new venture. Entitled Small Business: Too Big To Ignore, the OCC addresses the top three obstacles to small business growth: lack of access to needed workers; key infrastructure gaps, and the rising cost of doing business.
Your Cornwall Chamber plans to work with the OCC and will be holding a variety of roundtable discussions and other work groups as we work together to find out how to overcome your challenges and give you the tools to succeed in today’s tough economy.
Your Chamber is pleased to introduce the Young Professionals Group. Spearheaded by 1st Vice President Meagan MacDonald, the initiative is just as the title suggests. This dynamic group consists of Cornwall’s younger business leaders and it is active with a broad range of both business-focused and social networking programs.
The YPG is for Cornwall’s professionals in the 25 to 40 age bracket and I encourage those of you in that demographic to get in touch with the Chamber and join this terrific group.
Wednesday, June 1st is a day to mark on your schedule. It’s the Chamber’s popular Golf Day and once again, Summerheights will be your host in partnership with the Chamber. Registration has already begun and a visit to the Chamber’s web site will give you all the details. If you would like to visit the golf link CLICK HERE or if you prefer, contact Lyette at the Chamber office. She can be reached at 613-933-4004, ext. 222
Finally, we want to reach out to all members of the Cornwall Chamber, and those who have yet to join one of Ontario’s oldest business associations. We want to hear from you — your thoughts, your ideas and even your criticisms. We are most optimistic about the Chamber’s year ahead and your input will help our entire Chamber team meet your needs and help you to succeed.
Consider — we win when we all work together.
